What Is Eczema?
Eczema represents a series of skin conditions brought on by allergic reactions or the human body's response to an immune system deficiency. The result may lead to inflammation of the skin, discoloration, and itchy spots very similar to dermatitis. Often, the inflammation itself is merely dermatitis. This can occur anywhere on your body, including the hands, face, neck, or other places. Atopic dermatitis is the most prevalent type and is usually the result of an allergic reaction. This condition generally starts in childhood. At Rêve Dermatology and Aesthetics in The Woodlands, TX, Dr. Oben Blair Ojong will strive to diagnose precisely what is causing the condition so that an accurate treatment plan can be created and completed.
How Is Eczema Treated?
Eczema can be addressed with various prescribed or over-the-counter medications and lotions. Hydrocortisone creams and ointments can be used, as well as antihistamines, like Benadryl, to help alleviate symptoms. Medications, like immunomodulators or steroid creams, can help with moderate to severe eczema. An oral or corticosteroid may also be prescribed. In extreme conditions, ultraviolet light therapy or laser therapy might also be used on the affected areas. Immunosuppressants could be prescribed when other solutions have failed, as these drugs suppress the immune system.
What Are the Symptoms of Eczema?
Eczema spots can appear anywhere on the body but predominantly occur on the face, neck, hands, or legs. With children, patches can appear on the inner creases of their knees and elbows. Once the skin is scratched, dry spots and open sores with crust could develop and can become infected. Eczema is typically characterized by the following:
- Red, dry, or itchy skin
- Persistent breakouts
- Pus-filled blisters
- Dry, cracked skin
- Skin thickening
- Skin sensitivity due to scratching
- Darkening of the skin surrounding the eyes
- Small, raised bumps
- Rash or swollen skin that varies in color

Extremely good. Very nice facility, friendly staff. Arrived early, saw Dr. Ojong early, everything went very smooth.
Very on time and let me say this - the Receptionist was beautiful, then I get back to the room and the nurse was beautiful....then the Doctor comes in and she was the most beautiful girl of them all!All kidding aside, very punctual and professional....but you might feel a bit ugly when you roll into this world of beautiful women.
I made an appointment with Doctor Reve for a mole check. The entire office staff was friendly and competent. The doctor was attentive to my needs; I will return for an annual check up next year!
Pretty office front desk was very nice and Ma was great but the doctor had me wait an hour after my appointment time definitely was not happy about that . She didn’t bother saying sorry for the wait.

Why do I have Eczema?
Specialists are not entirely sure what triggers eczema, but it is believed to be brought on by numerous things. Immune system abnormalities, genetics, the environment, skin irritants, and skin barrier defects are the most common causes. Genetics plays a significant part because specific genes can cause you to have very sensitive skin. An individual with relatives who suffer from asthma or allergies can have a greater chance of developing skin conditions like eczema.
Is there a solution for eczema?
Eczema is an ongoing condition that does not usually improve by itself. At Rêve Dermatology and Aesthetics, Dr. Ojong offers the top therapies for eczema and will recommend the proper treatment for your needs. With established and reliable treatment, eczema and its signs can be improved after a few weeks.
Is eczema contagious?
No, eczema cannot be transmitted from person to person. However, having the condition in one section of your body can impact different areas. So, seeking remedies as soon as possible is crucial to keep it from advancing to other sections of your skin.
What triggers eczema to occur?
Distress and anxiety could trigger an eczema flare-up. Stress and anxiety alike can cause an inflammatory reaction in the body, causing eczema. Other typical causes of eczema involve cleaning agents (such as detergents and soaps), environmental allergens, cold weather, and specific types of apparel materials.
